PowerPoint help needed with font sizing

I am setting up some slides for a talk using Powerpoint but it's been a while since I used it and I am a bit rusty.
What I want to do is vary the size of the font in one line. Now I can choose a type face and a size but once chosen I seem to be stuck with it for all the text in that line. I am doing some title slides, for example DARCY and ME.
I want to make the "and" appear in a smaller version of the same type face as DARCY and ME. I am struggling with this. PP seems to force you to keep all the text on a single line in the same size and font. I am sure I have misunderstood.
Can anyone tell me how to do this please?

Select the text you want to resize and choose the new font/size. Don't select the textbox. Doing that will change all the text in that box.0

Well I tried that and it changed everything else in the text box to be the same size as the resized and.......0

You must have selected all the text or the textbox itself then. Selecting a portion of the text to change the size of just that portion does work. I tried it.0

will try again and report back0

OK I have the Title slide option open and this has a heading text box and a subheading text box. I typed Darcy and Me into the Heading box and want to make all three words appear in different fonts with the and smaller than the other two words.
I highlighted the first word and selected an alternative font and size, to change just the highlighted word. However when I clicked to change the first word to the different highlighted font and size, it changed all three words to the chosen text and size for the highlighted word. It does this when I try to change either the font or size for any single word. It changes all the text I have entered to the option chosen for a single highlighted word.
I am using Paypal 2016.0 -
Just to make sure... you are in a Presentation View, and not in a Master View?
(i.e. click on the 'View' tab and make sure that either 'Normal' or 'Outline View' are selected.)
You might see something like the effect you describe if you had the 'Slide Master' View open.0
