RAC - Reclaiming Policy Excess HELP!

The OP's insurer will have recovered their outlay minus the £200 excess which the OP has paid. The £200 excess is down to the OP to recover himself. He chose this level of excess at the inception of the policy.
The OP's insurer has done nothing wrong!
If the car is worth £2000 and the excess is £200, do they only claim £1800 from the other party? Or do they claim £2000 and pocket the £200 excess for themselves? Can't be legal really.
I've always been told that if the insurer recoups all their outlay from the party at fault they will refund the excess too.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
So what will the OP's insurer have claimed off the fault insurer?

The insurers outlay would be £1800. They would claim £1800.0 -
Why my insurance company didn't just tell me "We don't pay that, you need to get in touch with his insurance and claim it yourself" instead of me having to dig around and wheedle the information from my broker, my underwriter and his insurance in several different phone calls I don't know!
If you look you will see that your excess is under the list of items not covered!0 -
This is all down to you not reading (or understanding) what your policy covers you against.
If you look you will see that your excess is under the list of items not covered!
Have you actually read my posts?
As I stated earlier, I specifically asked my insurer on the phone if my excess would be paid back if I was found not at fault when deciding to go through my own insurance or wait for the other party to admit liability and claim it off them and was told that yes it would be paid back.
They have now reviewed the phone call logs as I requested and found that I was advised this so are going to refund me the £200 as a 'good will' gesture0 -
Glad you got this result.
My point that you had not read your policy was that you were misunderstood the situation regarding excess, as explained it's not covered by your insurance. Useful for not only you to know, but anyone else finding this thread when searching wiuth a similar issue
Your result is due to the agent you spoke to apparently being unforgiveably untrained! (And them recording calls!)0
