Windows and Doors Quote

Hello everyone,

I've just been given a quote for new windows and doors and wanted to check that it all seems legit, as I have never bought them before.

I have been quoted £12k for 11 windows (3 are very large), patio doors, 1 UPVC door and 1 composite front door.

The windows are white UPVC triple a rating (which was the most important thing as I'm looking to save on my energy bills) and they also have Georgian bars. They're from Safe Style, fitting in Lymm.

Any advice would be great. I have been burned with dodgy tradesmen before so will be carrying out thorough research before making any significant purchase for my house! :T

Thanks, Kev

  • Get quotes from three companies, one of which should be a local one to you. Then compare the quotes. And don't be hurried by Safe Style telling you their offer is only valid for a few days.

Unless you need new windows for other reasons, your energy savings will never approach the capital outlay.

£12k + redecorating costs is huge. From the Energy Saving Trust link below you will be lucky if you save £150 a year even if you have all single glazed windows.

£12k invested long term even at the current dismal interest rates will produce £240pa.
  • I've just had a new composite front door fitted, which also has a side panel with two panes of class and french patio doors which are solid glass and that was £2511. Not sure how helpful that is but it should give some idea.

I have recently had two composite doors fitted by SafeStyle paying about £2.5k. I have been very pleased with the quality and service provided. I don't think they are the cheapest company around but they are very solid doors and look well worth every penny.
