Fireproof/retardant roller blinds for rentals?

Hi there,
I just had a blinds salesman give a free quote.
Run of the mill sales talk. :rotfl::mad:

He said to me that to have roller blinds in a rental flat, they must be fire retardant/proof? Is this correct, I should think most blinds sold are?

He then went on to quote me about £400 for 2 small windows for the fire retardant ones and £200 for the non more "dangerous" kind.

Won't be using them, but just want to know what are the regulations for fire retardent blinds? I found curtains do not need to be?

    Hi there,

You mean there are people who actually pay salesmen to give them a quote?

He said to me that to have roller blinds in a rental flat, they must be fire retardant/proof?
Agh! A question that is not a question....

But to answer your 'question', yes, that's what he said. I think. Though I was not there.

But no. they don't have to be.

But yes, you have a general duty of care to tenants, and if they died in a fire, and the fire brigade identified the blinds as the cause, or significant factor, then blame might be atributed (though I doubt it).

Though you might feel responsible and have nightmares.

Thanks for answer people, yes I really hope they were not trying to profit on the recent tragedy that would be terrible.

Won't be getting back to them, what a lot of BS making a high quote etc! Then let me guess I will say no then suprisingly they will "find" a new offer. Idiots! :)

Thank him kindly for his input. ask him which law (& which section thereof) says so... Then check it against legislation.gov.uk

£5 says there is no legal requirement..

I think blinds are the least likely to stop a fire best bet is to install both smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and have them checked every year, make sure all furnishings have fire retardant tag, provide a fire blanket for the kitchen. I'm not sure if there are regulations about providing fire extinguishers someone said there was but I don't remember having any in my rental house
