As mentioned before, you have up to six years to seek a remedy from the seller.

I am sure that by now you will have read MSE's How to Complain article.
    Wasn't that any help?

Yes I did and they are ignoring that, as you can see from the reply they sent, so have to get serious now, and really lay down the law.
If the unit had been cheap, I would have ignored it, but it cost £49, I'm not asking for a refund or total replacement, just one small clip.

You are assuming the item broke because of an inherent fault but you would have to prove that.

If the manufacturer doesn't supply spare clips then Screwfix can't either.

Screwfix said when I initially contacted them that this was something that they get asked a lot, so to me if it continually happens, that would point to an inherent fault due to poor quality manufacturing.

British General, the manufacturers have also said it is one of thrifty most asked requests - so in a logical world, you would make them stronger, or redesign it, or make spares

Success! ... here is the Screwfix response.
    Thankyou everyone for your help

    Dear Martin

Thank you for your email response.

I am very sorry to learn that you were unhappy with the response you received.

I can confirm that on this occasion, to resolve the situation, I am happy to offer a replacement. Unfortunately, we do not stock spare parts for items and so we would require the item to be returned to us in full and then a replacement can be offered.

If you could please confirm a suitable date and address for collection (Monday to Friday) where someone will be present at the address between 8:00am and 6:30pm, we can make the arrangements for this to be collected.

A replacement will be despatched upon receipt of the damaged item back to our warehouse.

    We await your response.

    Kind regards
