I think I might not get my student loan on time..

Just discovered the PR1 form unposted because it had slipped into a folder in my bag and I didn't notice and forgot about it.

My first payment is due next week but if the LEA haven't had that form it wont go through will it, even tho I applied online via studentsupportdirect.co.uk.

Anyone know if I'm right about this cos I'll be well and truly fukked if I am. I don't have time to go and hand deliver it because my daughter is being moved from one hospital to another tomorrow and I'll be with her and settling her for the next few days and then my course starts on Monday 5.gif

arrggh i could really kick myself!

AFAIK they need to have received the signed form back before any payment is made.

Maybe give them a phonecall to see if they can help? Maybe you could fax something through to them?

The online form is an alternative to the PR1 and asks the same questions so if you've applied online you shouldn't need to send in PR1 as well.

They will have sent you a declaration letter which you would have needed to sign and post back.

Login to the website and check the status of your application on there :)

Looking at the student support website, they seem to be encouraging people to apply online, so I would have expected that you could complete your whole application that way (or whats the point, really?) BUT I have never tried this myself, so I may be talking rubbsh here.

Have you had any letters through from the student loans people detailing what you will be getting? Without the loan schedule letter you definitely won't get anything as you have to give that to your uni and they then confirm to the SLC that you have started your course. the SLC will not pay out your first loan chunk until they have that confirmation.

You can log in to the student support website and check the progress of your application if you don't have this letter and check where it has been held up. Then I would suggest getting on the phone to them and asking how best to progress this through as fast as possible (eg where a faxed copy of anything would be acceptable, if things could be scanned and emailed, anything to make progress instant rather than having to wait for post)

I have heard a lot of people complain about having problems with the student loan system, but both for myself and my husband they have been really good and have always got things sorted in time even though I am useless at getting my forms in when I should (though admittedly, I've never been quite this late!)

Hope you can get it sorted quickly.

I applied online, but still had to send back a signed form (not the full PR1) once they had assessed my entitlement.

Yeh, I applied online. Went to my LEA thingy to give my passport a photocopying. About a month later they sent me a thing to sign. Sent that off. Got another letter which then stated I would be getting a loan.

Then 2 weeks before I start, they sent me another letter saying when my loan is going to be paid.

It was all paid online, all thanks to me being organised and doing it 6 months ago! wh00py meeee.

thanks everyone, I've had nothing in the post, on the site it says awaiting assessment, which seems to have been a long time as I applied at the beginning of August and I've not been able to get through on the phone.

I'm also unlucky enough to live in one of the LEAs which is taking part in the pilot scheme with no contact numbers or any way of speaking to someone in the student support department locally

I'll try and get through early in the morning and if need be hand deliver the form cos of the postal strike

I've never had a problem before and the reason for the delay is that my daughter has been in hospital for months which kind of pushed everything else to the back of my mind.

There has got to be something wrong if it says awaiting assessment - mine only took two weeks! Maybe it has got lost in the system?

Let us know how you get on x

Contact the student services department at your Uni and they may be able to sort out a short term loan until your application is processed and you are paid.

    Good luck
