They photographed the car, sent a reminder, I paid it, they then sent me a fine!

These two things are unrelated, you need to keep them separate.

You being photographed was not what initiated the reminder. The reminder was automatically generated because your tax had lapsed a set number of days before.

They photographed the car > They sent you a fine.
They sent you a reminder > you paid it.

You being photographed was unfortunate, but you were driving untaxed. so unfortunately its a bit of a fair cop.

There are 2 distinctly separate issues here that you seem to be treating as the same thing;

1/ You were driving a vehicle that was not taxed, got caught, and have been fined.

2/ The same vehicle then needed to be taxed going forward or SORNed to avoid further fines / action.

You taxed the car when you got the final reminder and so satisfied point 2. You now need to pay the fine to satisfy point 1.

Taxing the car now has no relevance to point 1 - it is an absolute offence - the car was either taxed or it wasn't.
Sorry Ronnie, but this post is all you need to know. I think it's a fair cop and that you'd be wasting time and money trying to pursue it further.

OP, I'd recommend paying by DD for your road tax - I always relied on the reminder form, and nearly got caught out a while back. Now I'm on DD, I just get an e-mail every year to tell me they are continuing with the DD - no fuss no worries. It's a tad more expensive if you pay monthly, but cheaper than getting a fine. You can set up a DD for paying annually or six monthly I think, so it's no more expensive. Plus you get the e-mail from them which is as good as the old paper reminder. I expect the final reminder you got was so that you didn't get further fines, rather than the initial fine you got.

I don't think you can pay 6 monthly via direct debit only yearly or monthly.
;72783291]What do you imagine the CAB will tell him that we haven't?

The OP committed a criminal offence, and was caught red-handed. The fine will help to reduce the tax burden for the rest of us.
A criminal offence, oh gosh, off with his head I say........... there is only one thing for it........... the tower of london.

Red handed LOL what a terrible person he is.

tax burdon, he paid the money so there was no tax burdon from him.
Trinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!

You do know you only get final reminders when you've missed the payment due date?

I pay 6 monthly by DD, so it is possible.
