Hiya, Have bought from ebay hundreds of times with no bother. Ordered some goods recently and found I could not pay by paypal due to a problem with the seller's account. Anyway, I emailed him, he emailed back saying he was sorry, yes, there was a problem he was trying to sort and if I wanted I could send him a chq or simply withdraw from sale, no issues or bad feedback given. Anyway, I thought this sounded fairly trustworthy (he provided his full name and address etc.) and so I sent him a chq which he has cashed. I have now asked twice where the goods are, and had no replies. I now see that there are two new bad feedbacks saying a similar thing.
Given I paid by cheque, I bet there is no recourse now ?
I haven't reported him to ebay yet (although have said I would if I don't get a response) what more can I/should I do ?
Sorry if it has been answered before, I went through a few posts that I thought sounded similar but it looks like no-one has been quite as daft as me and sent someone a cheque !
Thanks
Salx

Do report him to ebay anyway... they won't help you, but it will be logged at least. My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

I have read a number of postings on this site that cheques can be reversed upto 6 years from being cashed. That is why it is suggested to get a BACS transfer when receiving money as that is not reversible (if memory serves).
Suggest you talk to your bank and investigate your options. If you are at a poker game and you cannot figure out who is the patsy then guess what...you're the patsy - Warren Buffet0 -

A fraudulent cheque can be reversed up to 6 months as can a cheque with an error like words and figures not matching. However a cheque issued in good faith cannot be recalled once it has cleared the recipient's account.
The 'sorry I am having problems with my paypal account' is, as the OP has found out, a real clue to the seller being a scammer, most likely he is a hijacker and using someone elses account. There is nothing at all the OP can do to reclaim this money via ebay as only paypal payments are now covered. I would report the seller as Fay says to get a complaint logged. To reclaim any money though it will have to be small claims.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
