Freecycle is it corrupt??

I just ignore the wanted posts - its easy enough to do with an email filter:D
I mean who really expects to get some of the silly things people ask for? But in the long run all it does is make them look daft doesn't it? I mean there is always a queue of people down the tip waiting to chuck their xbox 360 or whatever isn't there? :rotfl:
And if all people can manage in a reply to my offer is I'll have it then they will NOT be getting it.
Like all things in life there is good and badIts saved me lugging stuff to the tip at any rate and the thought of someone being to use my old sofa instead of the worms makes me happy

manners cost little.
it is a nice warm feeling deleting the mannerless replies though isn't itHate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing

Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying :mad:0 -
Do mods go for stuff first? How can they do that when usually the first time they see something is when the message goes out to everyone else in the group?
If mods are working on the group when they see something offered they would like then yes, they are in a position to send a quick response. It is still up to whoever made the offer to choose who they give it to, doesn't have to be the mod!
Hmmm, I wish our moderator was more like you. Our local Freecycle is moderated before posting - posts have to be approved - so he can (and, I suspect, does) get first call.0 -
Both my local groups advise (but optional) FOP - Fair Offer Policy added to the header of goods offered. Helps weed out the grabbers from the genuine needers I suspect.
Hope this makes sense - sounds like what one of the earlier posters was saying0 -
I'm quite new on Freecycle, but the ones who've collected my stuff seem to be genuine so far. I try to choose replies where they give a nice reason for wanting the item, but if I'm willing to let something go for free then I'm not going to be fussy about what happens to it. Like Ken68 said, I can always sell it myself if I'm that bothered that someone else will.
As for whether we should be giving things away at all, for me, part of being an MSE is not just looking after my OWN money, but helping others save some £ tooI think it would be a shame if everyone was so concerned about making those last few £ on a used item, that there was no giving left.

I was goign to list some stuff on Freecycle when we sorted out our kitchen, but had a problem with their website, then I read this list of postings, so I put it on Ebay instead, with a very low start price and a 'local collection only'.
A lovely young lady came to get my old fridge & freezer (for which she paid the princeley sum of £17 for both!) and she was really pleased with her bargain, as she was just setting up home and didn't have much money.
I asked her if she had looked at Freecycle, and she said she had but everything was gone immediately (she is at work during the day, like a lot of us, and she reckoned only those at home during the day could get on fast enough to get stuff).....
So I got a bit of dosh towards Christmas pressies (like the good little MSEer I am), She got a bargain (ditto), and we were both happy.
I love the ethos of Freecycle, but like many have said, it is open to corruption. If I sell something cheap on Ebay and someone then resells it and makes a profit - I think 'good for them' - they have taken the risk.....but I don't like the idea of someone selling something I gave for free and making a profit on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

A Chloe Paddington handbag (As if anyone is going to Freecycle a designer handbag worth £1000!)
That is insane! I seriously doubt that would make it through on ours, the moderators would delete it. A good few months ago there were a few daft ones - designer prams, specific items from the Argos catalogue  . After complaints from some of the regulars we get very few ones that seem unreasonable. I thought the one for a piano was taking the mick until I saw the thank you post - he had been offered more than one!
The most effective way I have found to avoid the traders is keep all the emails for a few months and when you get replies see if any of them have offered anything.0 -
i have read the whole thread and i agree with most comments fora and against......
the biggest problem/issue that annoys me is people offereing stuff, the item is then spoken for before everyone gets the daily digest......
more recently this has reduced as people are adding the following to thier postings
something along the lines
'i will wait until the daily digest has gon e out before deciding who will be offered the item'
as for the Wanted/wish list posts - i ignore them.
but generally i have offered/received several items that i thought where of no use to me or not likely to be available.
so freecycle does have a purpose but as in everday life, there will always be someone who manages/tries to the the pee.....smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

You don't need to keep posts - one can do a search on members name and see what posts they have made so you can see what they have offered/taken/asked for etc
One thing Is I iwsh they would move away from yahoo
yahoo are the biggest bunch of incompetents on the planet - sometimes I can sign into my groups, sometimes I can't , same with my email , often it lets me sign in to my email **but** not groups even though I use same sign on details for both and it's just let me into my email - utter cretins :mad:
Please freecycle move away form those idiots at YahooHate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing
