Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying :mad:0 -
Well I certainly feel able to make moral judgements about them - they have lower standards than your average 'Rag & Bone' man.
If there was nothing wrong with them grabbing everything that came up for resale, why not put a note on their email, requesting the items;
"I am a trader who will be selling your items in a boot sale or on EBAY"
How much response do you think they would get?
Without that note, it is simply deception.
Ever thought life might be more fun if you just relaxed a little bit?
And lay off rag and bone men.0 -
I agree - I actually belong to 4 freecycle groups all local to me but there is not a specific one for my town. I have had a really positive experience with them...
I have posted wanted ads, but not for high value stuff - the most recent was for 2meters of chicken wire for my rabbit hutch - I had approx. 10 offers!
I have also got rid of stuff and to genuine people too - I try hard to pick people who really need stuff.
I'm forever checking out the sites and find them very interesting - its amazing what people manage to give away.0 -
I use Gumtree. I have received items for my grandchildren. In return I put things I no longer need. Tomorrow I have someone coming to cut up a tree that was felled in my garden to use for burning. Usually you can tell whether people are genuine.I used to give to a local charity but that was closed when found the staff were taking the money instead. At least this way it doesn't go to Landfill.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

If a trader takes your item away and sells it to someone who has a use for it, then that's three people happy. You've got rid of whatever it was that was cluttering up your house without having to stick it in landfill. The trader's made a bit of cash and the person he sold it to has got something they wanted.
Why do we think that a trader using Freecycle to earn money for their family is less worthy than someone who just wants the free stuff for doing nothing?0 -
Steptoe & son are my favourite people - role models for us all.PasturesNew wrote: »Because it is in the rules. No reselling,

Or these rules.
a)Who can join / use Freecycle?
Any individual who is NOT intending to make a direct profit from their Freecycle activity. Registered charities and Not For Profit organisations are also welcome.
b) What rules do I have to stick to?
Not many! Anything offered must be free (offers of money/payment in kind on Wanted ads are not allowed either). No weapons (including kitchen knives). Information from the group (including email addresses) must not be used for any purposes other than responding to Freecycle ads.
c) Do ads have to be worded in a particular way?
Yes please! All ads must be headed by one of four titles - Offer, Wanted, Taken or Received. When posting a 'Taken' ad, please state which member has received the item.
d) My inbox is being swamped - how do I control how my messages are delivered?
Go to 'Edit Membership' on the home page, then to 'Message Delivery'. You then have four self-explanatory options which should help you control your inbox. I would suggest either 'No Email' (in which case you'll have to check the site regularly if you want to keep up to date) or Daily Digest.
e) Can I ask for *anything*?
Within reason, yes, but please try to be realistic! There's no harm in asking for the moon on a stick, but if you keep doing so, people are unlikely to take you seriously.
f) What happens to my stuff after I've given it away?
Who knows? ;-) Freecycle is all about no-strings giving - we do not allow any conditions to be put on gifts. We do insist that items are not sold on for profit.0 -
When I lived in Portsmouth I used Freecycle quite often. When we were preparing to move I found it ideal when sorting out the stuff I didn't want to bring with me. Within minutes of posting, my items had gone. I have also used it for a few things I wanted. But I wouldn't post a wanted post for something ridiculous like a car/laptop/caracan etc! And usually when I posted a wanted I would make sure I posted an offer too.
Since moving to Dorset I have found there isn't as much going on the freecycle site here. I find 9/10 posts are for wanted nowadays so don't check it quite so often.£2 savers club. No.90. Aim £500.0 -
I offered a 3 piece suite on my local freecycle, immediately, someone got in touch with me and said they wanted it, arranged a date and a time, he kept in touch with regular emails, then on the day - yes you guessed it, he never turned up. So I reported it to the moderator, and the reply I got back was - 'how do you know he hasn't been injured or killed in a car crash on his way to pick it up' I couldn't believe the reply, he/she was so snotty and arrogant in their email, I told them that I didn't like what they were saying and the tone of their emails, so he/she told me if I didn't like the reply, I didn't have to use the site anymore - which I will not do.
