Freecycle is it corrupt??

I wouldn't get too indignant about people selling things on, really.
I get extremely indignant if someone sells something they have collected from me.
The rules in every group, as far as I am aware, state items received are not for resale, or that the anyone requesting the item must declare their intention to re-sell.
However nobody ever does decare they intend to resell. The reason they do not declare that intent is they know that the vast majority do not want their goods put up for resale.
So for anything of mine to be resold means I have been deceived and lied to, and those people are simply scum.0 -
I have found freecycle a mixture of good and bad. The good giving and receiving things, the bad greedy people. Iv had people who want to grab everything and anything, people who want to know the in and out of things I offer. People ask if we can provide a photograph, deliver for free, keep things for weeks on end,and people who who turn up hours later than arranged or not at all.
There are also goods which Iv not seen advertised but which people post a thankyou!.
I think the best way to go is the recycle shop. Id have nothing against the shop making a profit from the goods given as long as they are sold cheaply to those in need. The profit could then be used to give people a job.0 -
I'd never have thought Freecycle could be dodgy or at least exploited, I must be stupid, after reading these posts I can see lots of ways it could be misused. Shame - as it's put me off, probably more likely to give bits direct to charity shops now.0

I was a little upset with a freecycler this week.Late on sat night she advertised a set of pans, unbeknown to me i was offered them sunday lunchtime to be picked up that day!! I had a family emergency so by the time i read my emails about 10pm sunday, i`d had 2 emails from her 1 offering me the pans - the other readvertising the pans " due to a no show"
She did`nt give me time!! I emailed her, asked her if they had gone and got a curt yes from her back!!
Some people don`t give you chance!!0 -
I've used our local freecycle a number of times now after a 'de-clutter'. Recently I listed 8 items, mostly electrical and after ignoring the obvious traders allocated them out to 8 different people. Of those eight only two collected the items, the others just didn't bother to turn up after agreeing a time with me .
I then put the remaining items back on (a week later) and immediately I got an email asking to collect the lot. It was obvious this was a car booter/trader but I decided that if they could collect that afternoon so be it and I said they could have them.
Now this is the funny bit (at least I think so). At the alloted time, I saw a white van pull up outside and out jumped a bloke, who began walking along the pavement, counting the house numbers and then stopped at the end of my drive, looked back to the van and pointed. He then walked back to the van and got in. Next a woman with a young toddler got out of the van and came down my drive, rung the bell and sheepishly asked for the items, that were for her elderly mum! :rotfl:
What an act! I'd have given the stuff to the bloke, there was no need to act out an elaborate show to I imagine decieve me, convince me that they were indeed not a tradr of sorts.
Ah well, the stuff was gone, the house was tidyier, the gf happy and I had a beer.Goodtimes!

In agreement with this one.
On a bad note - advertised a load of old, ahem, tat I'd found in our garage not long after we'd moved in. Listed everything and asked people to email if they wanted something in particular. One person came back with 'I'll take the lot'. No, I don't think so. I didn't respond to that one.
On a good note - advertised a load of cooking apples from my tree, I couldn't get through them fast enough. Around 4/5 people requested some and I had lovely 'thank you' emails back from 2 people. In fact one woman asked if I had any more going spare as her husband drove along my road early most mornings so I left a load more out for her.
I joined Freecycle a while ago but quickly cottoned on to the fact that some people will ask for items with the sole intention of selling them on. However, I have seen people advertise things and state 'this would be good for car-booters'.It's wouldn't have not wouldn't of, shouldn't have not shouldn't of and couldn't have not couldn't of. Geddit?0 -
We use Freecycle to get rid of stuff we don't want, so it doesn't matter what happens to the items afterwards, it still saves us a trip to the dump.0

See I always send an email saying thank you. But have never received a single email saying thank you and I have given lots of nice things away- which I find odd.I guess peoples social skills can be different when communicating over the net
I do like freecycle though. Oh and I do say resellers welcome - good luck to them as I can't be bothered getting up at 6 on a sunday morning to sit in a car park selling tat. I don't know why it bothers people so much regarding carbooters and ebayers, it may be paying for a well needed holiday for the family for all we know.0 -

But I hear charity shops sometimes just dump stuff as they have been over donated. I have taken excellent toys and expensive clothes to charity shops and been treated like I am a pain in the arris. "Put it down there!" One shop told me to take it away as they had too much (rather rudely ). Also we have problems with vans not turning up to collect the bags so you have to keep bringing them in and out.
I think with Freecycle it works better as you gain experience, you work out which emails to keep and which to delete and how to work people so they don't take advantage of your time.0 -
