Freecycle is it corrupt??

I've complained to the mod before and she swore blind shed spoke to her about begging. It did calm down for a while then she came back as beggy as ever. She isnt the only one though. Sob stories really pee me off. We all struggle in life, why should I give a damn about her kids. I don't have any and never plan to and already contribute to their education and such. With this particular women it really seems that we should be sorry for her simply cos she has 5 kids. You made em luv you pay for em:heart2:Got Married 1st may '10!:heart2:
Our Money Saving wedding was the best day of our lives!!

I use freecycle alot. I've had a couple of things a trike for my son after his got stolen was one lovely one.
I've also given away lots of stuff, you get to know people around here and you know when things are going to them not to a carboot, but to be quite frank i don't care! if I could be bothered to sell it I would, but otherwise its just cluttering the house up.
Mind you my last few giveaways were:
bag of oddments of wool
snail encrusted compost bin
collection of plastic pots and seedtrays
half full box of plastic cutlery
none of it the type of thing it would be worthwhile cleaning up and selling!DEBT: £500 credit card £800 Bank overdraft
£14 Weekly food budget0 -
I too used Freecycle a lot last year to get rid of stuff, and all the people who came seemed genuine and appreciative of what they took. I had a thankyou email from someone who took away my daughters' bunk bed to say how pleased his daughter was with it.
I don't have a car, so for me it is an ideal way of getting rid of large unwanted items, I'm about to put a sofa bed on there which is cluttering up my garage!
I do notice ridiculous requests on our local Freecycle, for laptops and suchlike, but have learnt to ignore them, the majority of posts seem genuine, and there are more offers than wanteds.0 -
The wanted ads really put me off freecycle. If you want something and you can't afford it you save up until you can afford it. Or you buy it on the never never. You don't expect others to kit out your house because you're "poor" or going through a rough patch.0

just got a lovely coffee table today, and the givers even brought it round- thought it only fair to give something for their petrol, which surprised them a bit.Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

Think it depends on your local area.
I love freecycle, usually give away rather than collect (although we got a fab car stereo - asked for anything as long as the radio worked, but was offered a rather up-to-date number!!). It's especially good for things that have hardly any re-sale value but tbh if I post something, I just want someone to take it and use it and get it OUT OF MY HOUSE. I don't really care what they do then, if they can be bothered to resell it, good for them.
Having said that, our local freecycle I think has more time-poor, money-rich people on it, so it's more about the environment and keeping things out of landfill rather than people asking for expensive laptops and cars (sounds v strange...!). And haven't noticed moderators taking things for themselves.
And people do often say thank you, which is nice0 -
PS re the 'wanted', I have asked if it's something that people may have kicking around their house and don't want anymore, rather than purchasing new items (ie an old car stereo).
People have also asked on my local one (and I have obliged) for old cushions/duvets - any condition, mugs for a old people's project... you get the idea. If people ask for a computer - any condition as long as it can process word document - fine. If people ask for the latest laptop that must be silver and lightweight, well, that's a bit cheeky!!0 -
I have to laugh at the one on my local Freecycle recently, "Wanted Nintendo wii with nunchucks - will collect". I'm sure you will!
I've been on and off Freecycle - it's served my purpose. Although of the final things I put on recently, it was some work equipment which I no longer need and someone local wanted it, I said ok. 3 weeks later I'm still being promised that she'll collect! How bloody rude! Of the 15 or so people who contacted me, she was the one I said yes to and they she can't even be bothered collecting even though she's within about half a mile of me.
Needless to say, it's been offered to someone else now.Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0
