Oil Temp

Check the oil level anyway.
Anywhere between 80 and 120 C should be fine.
Much below 100 and it doesn't boil off the contaminants, much above 120 and it oxidises to a sticky black mess like the inside of a 1.6 PSA engine on its second turbo.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

What car? Very rare to get an oil temperature gauge or readout on anything other than a performance car rather than a coolant temperature gauge...0

Check the handbook - are you SURE you're not referring to the coolant temperature gauge?0

If you're not sure whether you need to top the oil up or not, have you actually... checked the level? Radical thought, I know.0

Pretty sure your car doesn't have an oil temperature gauge: If it's the coolant gauge (at the bottom of the rev counter in some models - basic cars don't have one), then, according to the manual, anything between 70 degrees and 120 degrees is fine as long as the coolant warning light isn't on or flashing.0

My car isnt a performance car, but has an oil temp gauge. Reads at about 90 when warmed through, but will get to just above 100 on warm days when its working hard.0 -
