Query re MOT Expiry Date and Early Fail

The question was, am I :I am still covered by the 'original' MOT Certificate
However, as others have pointed out, driving an unroadworthy vehicle is an offence ; and failing an MOT makes that "knowingly", which is probably worse. Having said that, some garages will discover unroadworthiness as part of their business ; so they might tell you about things they've noticed.

Umm, not necessarily.
There are plenty of fails that would not make your car unroadworthy.
Given the MOT is a test of meeting the minimum requirements pray tell what are they? Yes I agree it doesn't mean the vehicle is dangerous, i.e blown number plate light bulb, but the fact is the vehicle does not comply with the legal minimum standards to be used on the UK roads if it fails the MOT.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. You can be fined up to £2,500, be banned from driving and get 3 penalty points for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition.
Wrong advice from .gov.uk. Yet again.0 -

Light failures in daytime are certainly one. Seatbelts on unoccupied seats. Towbar wear or wiring, when there's no trailer.but the fact is the vehicle does not comply with the legal minimum standards to be used on the UK roads if it fails the MOT.
If your car fails the MOT, it may well still be legal to drive - if the previous test has not yet expired, and if it's roadworthy. Like I said way back up there - consider a failure that's since been fixed. If the failure rescinds the previous MOT, it would not be legal to drive until the car was retested.0 -

OP, sounds like you're probably best off leaving it until the end of July, then there's no issue. Don't forget, when you transfer keeper to your relative, they'll have to sort out the road tax as well, and you'll both probably be better off if you do that at the end of the month.0
