Can you appeal to have national insurance credited when you would have been eligible?
I have seven years missing because whilst I was unable to work due to my disability but I didn’t claim benefits as I inherited a modest amount and so couldn’t claim income based ESA. I have since learnt that I would have been eligible to claim ESA and receive national insurance credits. But at the time I claimed (seven years ago) I was told I couldn’t claim at all.
Is there any way to ask the inland revenue to top up my national insurance contributions because I am deeply worried about my retirement.

You can't appeal because this doesn't constitute an appealable decision.
If you have evidence that "I was told I couldn’t claim at all" by a DWP employee (i.e a letter) then you could perhaps try a complaint and financial redress.

You have not yet reached State Pension Age?
If so, have you checked your new state pension statement?

Seven years ago ESA didn't exist it was incapacity benefit which had you claimed would have given you NI credits, its too late now to do anything, other than BUY the missing years.0
