live tv show filming - free ticket catch

Options
Hi all -

Possible a weird place to post this but I didn't know where else and it's kind of about money saving!

I've recently booked tickets to view a filming of the Dave tv show Taskmaster down in London (we are in wales) which is a 3hr drive each way. We figured it was worth it as we love the show and the tickets were free, but after booking them we read the tickets and it states below that they deliberately overbook so the audience looks full on camera, and it's first come first served.

I don't want to waste time and money driving down to london to get turned away, so I was wondering if anyone has experience at these live tv filmings and knows how often people get turned away or if they generally say this to cover their buts?

I know there's no way to know for sure, I'm just trying to find out what i can so I can make the most educated decision possible.

Many thanks

Would it be too obvious to say "Get there early"?

I go to many BBC radio recordings and they definitely issue more tickets than they can accommodate, as a fair percentage of people don't turn up. I always turn up before the time stated and always get in. For one show I did end up on the standby list, but still managed to get in.

Get there very early. I have turned up at time stated ( not for this show) and didn't get in. Did get given priority tickets for s future recording though.

I went to a quiz show filming in Manchester, and because I wanted to be near the front I went early. It meant standing in line for ages, but I was three rows back. To be honest I found the whole thing boring. We were there ages, I wanted to leave but couldn't, found it difficult to stay awake it was so boring. If you like the TV show you will probably enjoy it, but I had never heard of the show I was watching. I went for the experience, but I wouldn't do it again.

    This.
That happened to me with The Last Leg earlier in the year - despite being half an hour early - but they did honour the priority tix the next month. Particularly if it's an existing popular show then more people will actually turn up than if it's a pilot. Expect to spend plenty of time queuing - depending on the show and the production company, they might give out wristbands so you can leave the queue and get a drink/meal and then come back to your numbered spot (BBC Radio 4 do this). If you're travelling - have a plan B for that part of London.
I need to think of something new here...

We've been to see a few things at London Studios & Riverside Studios and they've always sent/emailed Priority tickets if you've had to travel some distance.

When we arrived there have been 2 queues, one for Priority which has always been shorter than the normal one. But I think we always aimed to get there about 1 hr before opening anyway. Has been ages though since we've been.
