First VAT return question

Hi there all,
My husband and I set up a new business we have am accountant doing all of our accounts.

Can I ask when the first vat return has to be in as I thought it was every 3 months? Thats what it says online also. Business started 8th may, so I thought August?
Account has said you get 5 months to put first one in, is this correct?

Thank you

The first return dates will be shown online if you login to your HMRC/Govt gateway account. Go into VAT, then select "submit a return". If it says "no returns available to submit" then nothing is due yet. Otherwise it will show the dates of the return due. The first return is often not 3 months - it will tie in with whatever quarter end was requested on the VAT registration form.
