Breakdown Insurance Damage Claim

Hello,

I was after some help on a breakdown call out I made.

I left work one night to find I had a bad puncture. I chose to use my breakdown service to replace the wheel and a vehicle turned up - they outsource their jobs. The guy who turned up was very chatty, nice and helpful. He started to remove the wheel-nuts and I realised he wasn't using the locking wheel-nut I had so mentioned it and he took it and used that. Instead of replacing the tyre with the spare he fixed the puncture, put it back and I drove home.

3 days later puncture was back so I went to a tyre company local to me. They showed me how one of the wheel-nuts and screws have been shredded and cannot be used where it was forced off. They were unable to tighten it back on. The last time that would have been off was for the MOT and it would have failed it. I contacted the breakdown cover that day, provided details, photos and a quote and they have come back to me saying since I signed off the job at the time there is nothing they can do. There would have been no way of me seeing any damage he had caused.

I need this fixed before my MOT apparently. It will cost me almost £200 which I cannot afford.

Is there anything I can do, or anything you can recommend? They have said I can take it to the ombudsman but really it's my word against his.

Thanks!

They do not remove wheels for an MOT.

Forced off? If the guy had to force it off in the first place then it must have been stripped already.

Unless you can prove he stripped it you wont get far with a complaint. Especially when your facts are not correct.

If it was so bad it couldnt be used how did the guy manage to fit it?

They guy may have done it or the garage with the 2nd repair may have done it? No proof either way.
