Im hoping someone here can help. My husband and i got married on the 1st August and instead of presents we asked for money. We opened a joint account at the nationwide and after the cards arrived he paid the money (very carefully counted!) into the account. (end of August)
Last month we took some money out to buy a new car and noticed that it was £100 short. We put it down to cheques not clearing in the timespan. However tonight we have checked online and it turns out that the money paid in cheques is all there, but we paid in a sum of cash which was counted by the cashier too. Later that day the total cash is debited from the account (titled "correction" on the statement) and then credited but £100 short of the original amount. We have the original receipt.
My husband has called the bank and they have said that he needs to go into the branch (as expected) and see the manager to have this investigated.
Does anyone know how long this will take and if we are likely to ever see our money again?

If you've still got the original receipt go into the bank with it and kick up a fuss! Take in the staement as well, and as they said ask to speak to the manager and ask why the original receipt correlates with the amount of cash you paid in but you then have the 100pound correction on your statement.
I would be surprised if they didn't credit it back straight away (and to be honest that is what I'd push for) since they appear have made a mistake.
Hopefully someone will be along with more advice though!
Well done for keeping the recipet btw!Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0 -

I would say that the best way of dealing with it is to stay calm and polite.
Kicking up a fuss might get you thrown out!
There is an explanation for what has happened - either OP miscounted the cash, or cashier miscounted the cash.
If you have a receipt does this mean you had to fill in a credit slip to pay in?
Ask to see a copy of this - it might show up the error (possible miscast) which would only come to light when the work was processed.0 -
Try checking in the branch - the cashier might have had a cash error that day and it might be easility rectified. I agree about staying calm ect0
