ESA payments after 1st claiming?

on Tuesday i called DWP to claim esa and did it all over the phone but i forgot to ask how long it takes to get payments started.

so will i have to wait till after esa medical or do paynents start before that as from what i have heard they are taking a while to do the medicals if called for one.

    It could take 2-3 weeks for payments to start then you'll be on assessment rate. If a f2f assessment is needed and most people have them but this could take quite some time, some are waiting months for these. If your claim started after April and your put into the WRAG your payments stay the same, if before April you'll have backdated money. If you're put into the Support Group you'll have backdate money also to the 14th week of your claim.

    There is also no payment for the first 7 days of the claim. Effectively that means that, even if the claim was processed on the day you made it, no payment will be released until they received your medical certificate (fit note) from the GP.
