Please help: Cheapest return flights to Cairo over Xmas/New Year?

I'm looking to join an adventure holiday in Egypt, starting and returning from Cairo between 23 Dec-7 January. I need to organise my own flights. I can arrange extra nights accomodation cheaply in Cairo either side of the tour if necessary in order to bring down the cost of the flight.

I am travelling from South Wales, so the nearest airports are Cardiff or Bristol, but I would happily travel to London or further to get the best deal.

I have looked on travelsupermarket and the best deals I can see are flying out of London Stanstead for £600+ travelling on 22 Dec, or £460+ travelling on 21 Dec.

Can anyone help with advice as to whether this is a good deal or if there are other avenues I can explore to find cheaper flights?

I remember from when we lived there that flights to and from Cairo tend to get expensive the closer to christmas and new year you fly. The cheapest I can find is with BMI (who fly direct to LHR-CAI from 5th November): prices are from £361 up to around £500 depending on how flexible you can be with your dates.

Interestingly BA are only around £470 - I've never flown on a non-direct flight myself, but have many friends who have done this to save money and they all said that they wished they'd paid the exta £100 to fly direct coz the journey is much shorter.

Thanks for these ideas. I think the mistae I was making was thinking that travelsupermarket covered the whole markey.

I have found a good deal £366 from cheaptickets.com

But the site is a US one so I'm not sure whether the final price could be more depending on the actual exchange rate I get (£366 is an estimate from the $ equivalent).
