1994 Student Loan - Erudio

I'm hoping to get some advice on a letter I have received from Erudio saying that I owe £1743.03 from a student loan taken out on 26 October 1994.

I remember I had to defer the loan for a few years as I was not earning enough money and I think the last contact I had with Student Loans Company would have been around 1997. They just stopped writing to me and I was young and daft so I didn't contact them.

I am now a mature student and am just starting a degree and then my masters so I am going to be back in education for at least another 4 years.

What can I do about this letter? Surely after all this time and no communication whatsoever this loan should have gone by now?

I'd really appreciate any advice.

Thanks.
