Dropped my apartment keys in the lift shaft!

Thanks for all your interesting responses. I didn't even think about it from a safety perspective, that something down that shaft could be a hazard.

Fortunately, what Hedhehog99 suggested has happened - the lift service was due for mid july, so the engineers (no thanks particularly to the management company to be honest) have kindly agreed to bring the lift service forward by a week and a find the keys at the same time, for no extra charge!

I was strongly considering changing the locks / having new keys cut in the event that they had said no.

FYI when I go down to the ground floor and look down the gap with a torch, there looks to be a floor, and all I can see is lots of debris, such a receipts and sweet wrappers. Doesn't seem to my untrained eye that there's anything mechanical there. Didn't see my keys though

I just watched Entrapment with Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta Jones - inspiring me to dress up in black and connect a magnet to a string and see what I can collect from the gap...
