duplicate TV license

As ridiculous as it might seem we have been paying for 2 TV license's f:mad:or the past 12 years in the last 3 houses we have lived in. On finding the error we approached the TV license organisation who in turn have said that they can only refund up to a maximum of two years as this is their company policy. I am almost certain that if it was the other way round that they would want every penny owed to them. By my calculation it is about £1000 we are out of pocket, do I have to accept the 2 years they are offering?

Unless you have evidence they forced you to do this, then thier opffer seems reasonable.
  • Hi, thanks for your reply, we were paying by direct debit, so the money was taken automatically. I could see it on my bank statement but thought it was my son's license we were paying for. as well as our own.

So your son wasn't paying for a license then?

So are you paying for two TV licences with the same address on?
Or two TV licences with different addresses?

And was this one direct debit or two separate (and individually identifiable) direct debits?

OP, it's not inconceivable that one address may need 2 licenses e.g. if it is 2 separate households in one property. Unfortunate for you, but I don't think you can blame TVL for the mix up. Might be worth double checking that you haven't paid twice for the same license, as opposed to paying for two licenses when you only needed one - if it's two separate licenses with different names on, then IMO sounds like they are right, as they weren't to know.
