** Where to go in Greece or Turkey?? ***

Hi again all,

Well we've finally narrowed down our decision for a holiday to Greece or Turkey. We quite like the look of Cephalonia (or kefalonia, whichever way you spell it).

Has anyone any recommendations of which region to go to or a 'special hotel' that they know about...

We want a nice beach and would love somewhere right on the water...

we'd like to avoid the 'sleezy' areas...

Thanks

Simon

  • We fly to Dalaman and stay at Calis Beach, Turkey...our favourite place. Beach isn't great but resort is not tacky, friendly atmosphere, great people, great food and we enjoy the area. Totally different to a package holiday, usually visit Olu Deniz lagoon, do a boat trip and get around by water taxi. Have seen dolphins and turtles there too. As a family of 5 it is far cheaper than a package holiday. Going with friends again this year and staying in villa with private pool. Would definitely recommend Calis we love it.

I considered Cephalonia once, and bit a little investigation. Do be sure that you get a deal that includes transfers: there is little or no public transport to/from the airport, and the taxi drivers take you for all that they can.
  • I've researched the taxi situation and it wouldn't be an issue as we plan to hire a car...

We're struggling to find any realy nice accomodation... we want something a bit special...

    I love Turkey ,:j:j:j:j:):):):):):):):)
so many favourite places so have a search on the web and see what you can find!!
The Twelve Islands is a beautiful area of islands between Fethiye and Gocek. The only way to enjoy them is to cruise in a Turkish gulet. Gulet cruises provide access to the tourist-free secluded bays where you can snorkel, swim, climb the cliffs or just relax.
Ölüdeniz is the famous beach and blue lagoon that features on every travel poster of Turkey.
The long, sandy beach is really spectacular and it shelters the lagoon from the sea.
By the lagoon there’s a national park - it’s an excellent place to swim.

  • Thanks for info these places look lovely...

We have been concentrating on cephalonia as it to looks like a georgeous place but are really struggling with the accomodation. We really want something 4-5* but anywhere we find is full or not even open this time of year...!

The few hotles we have seen mediterranee hotel, palace, etc.. all have poor reviews for the class/price...

    thanks
