  • Can't you see a different GP at your surgery?

Have you asked your GP for the thinking behind their reasoning?

    I have.

They all say them same, answer is no.

You are asking for something that is not available on prescription in the UK

NICE limits the drugs are allowed to prescribe on cost , you may be on the only allowed treatment on the NHS

  • I know the levo is no longer agreeing with me.

I feel tired all the time, hair loss, and other matters.

Second opinion is the only thing I can do and to pay for private bloods to be done.

You can't just ask for a second opinion from a GP you are not registered with. They may allow you to register as a temporary patient but that would be very unusual if your own GP is nearby, and even if they saw you it's very unlikely they would overrule them.

Many CCGs do not allow desiccated thyroid to be prescribed due to cost and limited evidence as to its efficacy.

If you are not satisfied then I would suggest a private consultation with an endocrinologist.

I'm now currently on 150 mcg of levothyroxine, and am not happy.

I am still having symptoms to include hair loss, intolerances to heat and cold, problems loosing weight, fast heart rate, and I bruise easily.

My recent blood results have come back that my tsh is 0.3 and t4 was 14.

I have been told that my t4 is too high and tsh too low, and that I could either be actually an over active thyroid or over medicated.

Ask for referral to an NHS endo first.

The GP is out of his depth.

I would assume OP does not meet the criteria for referral. Again this will vary between areas but in many she would not qualify.

No harm in asking though, and certainly a better idea than trying to see a GP at a different surgery.

Have you not already been referred to a specialist? If not, I'd ask for one. If yes, but it was "some time ago", I'd ask for another.

I have had a private referral to a consultant cardiologist, but that was originally a NHS referral which I wanted quicker. I'm not sure how you would go about it if your GP was reluctant to agree. An advantage of a private referral is that you are more likely to see a more experienced consultant rather than a junior doctor.

Have you researched what NICE guidelines say about your condition? And can you also find out what your CCG will fund in your situation? (I'm not sure if this would be available on their website or not. I should know but don't).
