The situation was I was evicted by my previous Landlord. It was a three bedroom house. We couldn't afford it,so he finally evicted us.The current Landlord who we are sharing the big room and he share a small room.
The current Landlord don't want to move out, because where he is working,it takes 5 minutes walk. But he said he is ready to give us a big room to share with a 6 month tenancy agreement. Will the Council accept it and pay for the room that me and my mum share.By the way,I am still getting Housing benefit, but I need to tell the council I moved two days ago to a new property which I share.

I just don't understand why you didn't rent a proper flat, this is a lodger situation, which the council may or may not like.

yes you are entitled to HB, but the council will have it's own rules. You really need to speak to them ASAP

Potentially helpful post in benefits section. Yesterday they were sofa surfing yet still claiming housing benefits.

If you qualify for housing benefit then you should be able to claim, even though you are living in a room in a shared house not in self-contained accommodation.

I think that You and your mum would be classed as a 'household' - if you are making the claim, you would need to declare that she is living with you, and her financial position would be taken into account.

There is no gain on continuing to take the housing benefit you are not entitled to (I assume this was for a house shared with both parents, one of whom was disabled), as you will only have to pay back the excess, with a larger debt as time goes on, making you a less attractive occupant for a property being rented out.
  • Hi,

maybe I'm getting this wrong, but is op asking if council will pay HB to both him and his mother if they are sharing only one room in house?

OP committing benefit fraud is not the way forward, be honest with them or you will find it very difficult getting any kind of benefit in the future.
