Outlook emails have changed

I have had a couple of MSE Outlook email addresses for a couple of years now, and everything was going well until the other week.
I was waiting for a couple of emails and kept checking my inbox and spam, but couldn't see them.
Then, a couple of days later, I saw that I had about a dozen unread emails but none visible in my inbox.
After going through various folders, I looked around the page and spotted a tab called - other conversations/focuused. I clicked on it and the missing emails were revealed.
I use Outlook at work, and this isn't happeneing there.
Why have they changed it, and why do they think people want to search around looking for their latest mail, rather than see it immediately in their inbox?

Are you trying to compare Outlook the online email system (@outlook.com) with Outlook the Office-based email programme (which usually connects to a Microsoft Exchange email server)? They are not related in any way.0

Yes, Outlook and Outlook On the Web are different products but do seem to be moving closer together.
There's a dichotomy between how users want software to work (usually they don't want anything to change, because they like what they're used to) and developers, who if they never change anything would be out of a job, and their employers couldn't sell new versions.0 -
