The advice in post #7 should suffice for the reset.
Often the problem with those laptops is the unnecessary software bundled with them and the relatively poor processors the laptop manufacturers utilised, in order to make them down to a price point.
So they are not optimal out of the box. Then over time the get worse with usage.
I think you just get used to the sluggishness, until it becomes unbearable.
If it weren't for the increased cost of SSD, I would remonstrate with you loudly for not fitting one. I kitted out all of my machines when they were £25 to £30 and I would hate to go back to the long start up and shut down times and the less snappy response times. In addition, your machine is more robust as you don't have to be concerned about jogging the HDD whilst in operation.
But how far you go with it is up to you.0
