Direct Debit: How long before they go 'Live'?

I'm hoping that considering they are setup.. they must be on a file somewhere that gets transferred to TSB when I come to switch?0

Well one thing is for sure if you manage to do the switch and your credit cards to try to take a direct debit from your old now closed account then it won't happen so just be careful you don't end up paying more in credit card interest you get for switching !
As previously said whether or not a direct debit is active is either that it has been setup or that the first payment has been taken but this does vary from Bank to bank so maybe you should ask the bank you are switching to what they count as an active direct debit0
