I'm double annoyed because she never told me as she was doing it......she's an ebay novice whilst i'm alot better (but by no means an expert)

Thing is i know that 1. You see the damn thing first and 2. NEVER use western union....so i would have told her to stay away but i didnt wanna do the 'i told you so' thing....

She did a vehicle HPI report thing and it came came legitimate so thats why they went for it...they used 2 credit cards - have they got any come back via this?

    Hi
I'm sorry to hear of your sisters plight - it can be a minefield on e-bay with these types of scams.

Western Union is a cash transfer business - if your sister withdrew the money from the cards to send via W.U , then i'm afraid there is no come back on the C/C companies. As they have no liability for that cash, once you withdraw it.

This protection only applies if you made a purchase with the card(s).

This should be a police matter - but it doesn't surprise me that they are showing no interest, going off past experience.

has she contacted western union to see if the money has been collected yet? i believe they may be able to put a stop on the payment, i work in an office which is an agent and im sure we had a customer who did that

That's the best advice you'll get, but I suspect these scammers work very quickly and doubt you'll have any luck, I'm sorry to say.

A work colleague was ripped off in much the same way, similar emails about WU that looked as though they were from eBay with a second-chance offer etc.

The local Police actually took the complaint very seriously and investigated quite well, actually finding the scammer in France, but getting money back is so unlikely that I wouldn't offer it as a realistic hope for your sister. Your best bet would be if they traced the rogue and they were in the UK.

not a lot to add but this may be worth a
    try

but I do remember one of my bidders
sending me a W Union payment and telling me after the
event.Took me ages to find our local office in a
not so nice part of town.To collect the cash I
had to prove my identity I was only trying to
collect £19 but the man insisted on all sorts
of ID before he would hand over the cash.
I gave up trying in the end and told my bidder
to send cash on special delivery if he had no
    other means of paying.
It may well be worth trying to see if you can
get onto w union and see if your sister can
get it stopped.Because as rough as this place was
they were really hot on proof of ID.

If she paid using two credit cards she needs to go
to the police to report it get a crime file number
just in case she can make a claim with the
    credit card people.

You wont get much sympathy from ebay
because they dont recognise Western Union
as a form of payment and clearly state this

But if she is ever tempted to do this again
tell her to use an escrow service such as
auctionpix or the ebay one had she have done
her money would have been safe

I do hope you can sort something out for her
    its such a shame
