Yes it is devasting but you have to hold on to the fact that 16 is a good age and you have not had to make the 'decision'.

Our dog is 17 this year and not in the best of health. It probably sounds awful but I am hoping she goes just like this before we have to take her to the vet for one last time.

    Treasure your memories.

Sorry to hear about your dog. 17 is a good age and he's obviously had a good life.

It doesn't sound awful at all. We all hope that our pets will pass without pain or suffering.

Woke up this morning to find my sweet 16 year old cat dead. She was on the windowsill in the living room. It was one of her favourite places to sit as she could keep an eye on the garden from there.

I'm devastated - it was totally unexpected. She had been in good health and playing with her sister in the garden yesterday. I guess she probably had a heart attack.

At least she was in one of her favourite places. I just hope her passing was quick and pain free.

Run free at Rainbow Bridge, Sammy xx

Hugs and commiserations for you and Sammy. We lost our beloved Murphy (see my avatar) nearly 3 years ago and miss him still. I have my favourite picture of him on my iPad wallpaper and get a warm glow whenever I look at it.:A

When I had to take a cat to the vet a few years ago for her final visit I was torn, and heartbroken. A few days later I received a lovely card from the vet saying I had made the right decision, and this made me feel better.

    Thank you.

I have a lot of pictures of her and her sister so when I feel ready I will do something with them like a scrapbook or memory box.

So sorry for your loss. Taking the positives though, she passed away when she was ready and didn't leave you with a decision to make if her life had come to an end by illness etc.

Sounds like she was much loved and had a great life till the very end x

I'm sorry for your loss, but today I had to have my beloved dog put to sleep. He was about 16

He had a long and happy life and I would have loved for him to end his life in his sleep and not at the vets after an injection

You have been lucky that she passed at home and happy.
You're only young once, but you can be immature forever :D

I am so sorry for your losses.

Sounds as if your beloved cat crept off to rainbow bridge in her sleep. Peaceful & dignified way to pass.

    Thank you.

I am pleased she went the way she did, without pain or suffering and she had seemed well and enjoying life and her food until the end. She had a good life and loved her home and garden.

Her sister doesn't seem to be missing her (although it's hard to tell) and is eating well, sleeping and appears to be relishing being the only cat now that she is getting all the attention and all the food and not having to share everything!:rotfl:
