Area of South East Cornwall to live in

We have recently had a total nightmare house purchase issue. During the process of exchange, and only four days before we moved, the people we were buying from pulled out.

We are relocating to Cornwall, so had already given up jobs for the move. It was a total bolt out of the blue as the purchase has been going on since last October. The chain had already collapsed once and they had waited for us to find another buyer!

We can't find anywhere in our preferred area at the moment (Polperro/Talland) so have started to look further afield.

We were wondering about Par. What is that like to live?

We want to be as close to the coast as possible, and within 45 minutes of Polperro as we have already bought a business there. We don't want to compromise on the house or area but are thinking we may be missing something. Thanks.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to rent somewhere until you have got to know the different areas and also the time it takes to get to your business from them?

Par is a long drive from Polperro, you might make it in 45mins but in the summer season you might not...

Have you thought of Looe? It's much nearer.

Not only quite a long drive but a tricky one too. Someone had a very recent thread on the area of Par recently, I'll see if I can find it.

I don't know about renting. It seems like throwing money away to me, and most want a 6 month contract. We also have a huge redemption fee on our mortgage, so it would work out very costly.

I need to look at Looe more closely. I think I have got an impression of it that may not be justified. It seem a bit down at heel, but that may be because I haven't spent a huge amount of time there. We fell in love with a house just outside Looe last week, but as we haven't sold they wouldn't accept our offer..

I adore Fowey, but it's out of our price range. We are also looking at Polruan.

The house we lost ticked nearly every box for us, it's so depressing having to start again. We were packed and ready to go, it feels very odd.

Certainly take a closer look at Looe. I can't say I know it that well (used to live in Plymouth) but it always seemed ok to me.

I'd avoid Talland unless you like being a hermit. There's very little there, except tourists in the summer.

I think I will look at Looe again.

Talland is our preferred area actually. However, it's unlikely another house will come up in our price range as there are so few there!

You've not given a clue how much you've got to spend.

    There's a world of difference between somebody with £200k, £300k and £500k

I'm more looking for suggestions of areas we may not know or have considered before. But up to 450k.

Looe is down at heel... as is Par.
I can see houses you can afford in Fowey, so you must have specific house requirements, as your budget does buy well in Fowey.

Ah, so price isn't an issue then.

If you're prepared to go to Par, check out Duporth. Sea views, private beach. Or Charlestown.
