Bear in mind that I got married 15 years ago, but we registered the notice in Wandsworth and got married in Richmond.NewUserHere wrote: »Anybody know if it's allowed to for example to register the notice in Wiltshire registry office but marry in say Lincolnshire registry office or whether you can only marry in the district registered?
My reading of the rules is that you *both* have to give notice, but not necessarily at the same time and not necessarily at the same place. So as per your example, if you live in Wiltshire then you give notice in Wiltshire. If your partner lives in Lincolnshire then they give notice in Lincolnshire. And then, if you wish, you can get married in a totally different place.0 -
If you live in one district and intend to marry in another, you will both need to visit the registrars in both areas.Make £2026 in 2026

You both have to give notice.
You don't have to attend together.
You have to give notice in the district in which you live - sounds like your fiance may be able to choose either district he lives in so long as he has proof of address there.
You don't have to give notice at, or go to, the district where you intend to get married, other than contacting them to make the booking for the ceremony.
You may have to wait to get a notice appointment, so start by ringing your local register office in Lincolnshire to make your appointment and take their advice on everything else.0 -

We both live in Lincolnshire district but he has forces shared quarters in another
You need to visit the office you live in to register, and the office for the area you intend to marry in to make the arrangements. At least that's what happened to us 12 years ago. Not sure if our names appeared on the lists in both areas.Make £2026 in 2026

I got married last year in a civil ceremony. We had to both go to give notice in the district where we live. We got married in a different district we arranged all that over the phone and through post and did not need to visit in person.
If in doubt ring both the area you live and area you want to get married and check the rulesTrying to lose weight (13.5lb to go)0 -
We are getting married in Guildford, my fiance gave notice at the Guildford office as he lives in the area. I gave notice at the Hastings office, my area, we went independently. All our paperwork was then sent to Guildford.
On the day of the ceremony just before the service you will have a short interview with the registrar, this can be done together or independently, its up to you.0
