barclaycard denying i ever had an egg card

I had an egg card from about 2006 until 2008. I have no details of my card info.
I was told when i rang Barclays, to send them in writing my name, address, and dob ( all of which were registered on my egg card )
They replied today saying they cannot find any record that i ever owned an egg card and that unless i send more information, then they're denying my claim for a ppi refund.
Any advice what to do next? My only thought is contacting my bank and asking for statements from that time period. I looked for one on my online banking account but they only go back 7 years.
The only purchase i made on the credit card was a £2000 tv from comet, which now no longer has a website.

They're not denying you had a card. They're saying they cannot find a record.
After a decade, I would think you're out of luck.0 -

Did you even have PPI? You don't say that you know for certain.
If you only ever made one purchase on the card and swiftly paid off this debt, the amount of PPI you paid would have been negligible anyway.
Unless you can find evidence of having paid PPI from your own archive, your complaint is now over.0 -
Hi.
I made the £2000 purchase but paid it off over about 18 months.
I do not know if i had ppi. All i remember is only about 60% of my monthly payment coming off my cc debt. The rest was taken by whatever fee's/ apr the card had ( the first 6months were interest free )
Im more frustrated by not being able to find any records of it. Comet have gone bust and so have egg card. I just want to find out really.0 -

If PPI was mis-sold to you, it means the bank had some of your money for years or decades ; and you either went without, or had to borrow the difference. If you weren't one of those people, you should be happy.
My mother never took thalidomide while she was pregnant with me ; if she had, I might be entitled to compensation. Should I feel unlucky that I missed out ?0 -

You cannot complain simply that the interest rate was high!Mariemcr99 wrote: »Im more frustrated by not being able to find any records of it
Time to put this to bed.0 -
My letter to Barclays was just asking for my egg card info, because when i rang them, they said their records only go back 7 years via the customer service phone line and that for longer searches i'd need to write to them.
Barclays replied saying they cannot find any info on me at all. That searching my name, address and dob shows up nothing, so therefore they cannot tell me if i am due a ppi refund or not.
They said unless i can send them more details within 6months, then consider the ppi claim denied.
I 100% had an egg card from 2006-2008. So before i give up, i atleast want to get them some proof i did have an egg card.
I have just rang RBS ( yes they were open at 11pm ) and they told me their records only go back 7 years via online banking and i'd need to go into a branch to get longer period statements.
So monday i shall go to the bank and see if they can print out some statements with my monthly eggcard payment info. If they can't then i have no other way of proving/getting my details.
No i do not know if i had ppi...but isn't that the whole point and why they need to refund everybody?0 -

It's also a myth sponsored by claim companies that PPI was routinely added without the knowledge and permission of the customer.
With credit cards like Egg, the PPI would have appeared on each monthly statement (itemised on a separate line) whenever the account had an outstanding balance. Any customer complaining that they didn't know they had it is simply saying they've forgotten signing up for it and didn't read their statements.Mariemcr99 wrote: »monday i shall go to the bank and see if they can print out some statements with my monthly eggcard payment info.
As I've already said, your one chance is to send the Bank a Subject Access Request (SAR) letter. For £10, this will provide all records the Bank has on file for you. It will bring to a close any doubts you have that there might still be a record of your phantom PPI.0 -
Ok thank you i shall try the SAR business.
Also, my point is not that they cannot find if i had PPI but they cannot find that i had ANY egg card at all. They asked for more info inorder to help the search, which is what i hope i will find when i go to the bank. The claim, they say is dead unless i provide further account info.0
