If DS exists .... then make DS go with you - and leave him in the car with the dog, to keep the dog "OK about you leaving".... or send DS into the shop....

Remember who is boss.... let DS "get away with" saying he doesn't want to be responsible is just a get out clause to "doss at home"... get him out with you :)

Firstly, yes he does exist, and you should know that because you met him at the same event where you met michaels's children.

Secondly, I explained that he's alarmed by her. She triggers his OCD, and he doesn't want to touch her. I would have thought that NP were familiar enough with a variety of struggles of one kind and another to realise that ordering a person with struggles of some kind to "get over it" isn't at all constructive, whether it's OCD, or ASD, or some other combination of letters.

Thirdly, DS is very far from the sort of young person who dosses at home. He helps at home a great deal - he cooks for us all when I'm feeling tired and can't be bothered for example - but the dog is the responsibility of DD and me. He would have preferred we not get a dog at all, but DD and I have been wanting one for 10 years, so we've gone ahead, on the understanding that she is to be a "downstairs dog" and he lives almost entirely upstairs, and he is not to be expected to do anything more with her than he feels able to.

Fourthly, yes, I could have sent him into the shop, but I don't want to make him travel in the car with her until I've bought and fitted those bars I mentioned earlier, that will make her stay in the boot. Anyway, he's working extremely hard on his EPQ, applying his perfectionist standards to it, so I don't want to get in the way of that.

Aaah, she sounds lovely. Please give her a cuddle from me, if she likes cuddles :) If not, perhaps a fondle of the ears? :D
She likes both - I'll pass both on to her from you.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Oh Lydia, I somehow missed that DS has OCD. I thought he was just dyslexic. Did he cope fairly well with Avatar Dog? (Obviously feel free to ignore, I hope you understand that I'm sympathetic as opposed to just nosy :o)

I meant "is present", not just his regular stance on dog/responsibility. :)

Ah, I hadn't spotted that bit. I'm like that with responsibility - and dogs - and kids.... I'm very alarmed at any of those, especially combinations thereof.

That'd have been my vote :)

Dunno who it is - some bloke I've never heard of - Jonnie Peacock.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b007t575

He's a rather lovely Paralympian gold medalist, who lost a leg as a child after getting meningitis.

He's won several gold medals for the 100m sprint.

Then he took part in Strictly Come Dancing, and was pretty incredible at that, too.

    He's become a national 'treasure'! :)

Perhaps he wants a break from his EPQ, and DS could go to the shop whilst you take New Dog for a walk? It does seem that there are almost endless possibilities here. You haven't even mentioned Ocado, for example. :)
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Maybe ... she's not as posh as she's had us believe - and you've spotted her glaring error!

It'd have never occurred to me re Ocado as I'm not posh.
You spotted it and you're posh.
It wasn't mentioned.... ergo ... we have a posh impersonator in our midst who slipped up on the tiny details :)

I've used Ocado and I am def not posh, some bargains to be had and when combining with my parents getting bits and special offers, no more expensive than anywhere else.

Re hill starts, I was a master at them. Having an electronic handbrake is not about being posh or having a nice gadget for me, it's about allowing me to continue driving without dislocating my shoulder every time I have to put the handbrake on.

Map on my phone - I use boring Google maps, I am rather anti downloading apps and will avoid it as much as I can (I hate the loss of functionality over the full websites), so utilise what comes with the phone already downloaded.

Having a down and stroppy day today so apologies if my answers are a little snappy.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Avatar Dog came into our family the year before DS was born, and died when he was 7, while LNE was still alive and before DS developed OCD.

Ocado is not much use if you want to use the stuff within an hour or two of thinking about needing it. At least, they may be offering ultra speedy deliveries in London, but they certainly don't out here in the provincial wilderness.

As it happens, she stayed in the car very nicely, and without showing signs of stress. She does prefer sitting in the driver's seat, though, which is understandable, and has to be reminded to go back to the passenger side. When the there are no humans to be with, dogs usually prefer to wait in the place that most smells of the preferred human - and in the car, the seat that most smells of me (if you have a canine strength sense of smell, natch) is the driver's seat. I really must get round to getting the bars to make her stay in the boot when I'm driving.

ETA This "not being able to leave her on her own" thing is temporary. Once she's really settled, I shan't have to worry about what to do with her if I want to pop out to a shop for a few minutes.

i hadn't ever thought of that before!
Will certainly bear it in mind when I get another dog.

Have you thought about wearing an old t-shirt in bed for a few nights, and when you do anything vigorous, to saturate it with your 'smell'? The you can leave that with her, eg in the boot when you get the dog-guard, or even downstairs with her at night.
