How old is that car, Pastures?
I didn't think you could lock your keys in the car these days.
I mean, if you have a button fob thing, you need it outside to lock the car, don't you?
It was an occupational hazard in the days when you got out, pushed the locking button down on the inside of the door, and slammed it shut.
I did that once, with the keys inside, but luckily, before I called the AA, I checked the boot, and I hadn't locked that!(I just lurve spiders!)

If you approach the car and press the button it all locks itself again - if you don't open the car door within about a minute or so it unlocks... but, during that time, you could open the boot, put the keys down to grab something, shut the boot behind you ... then, as you walk away, as you've not opened a car door it'll clunk locked again...0 -

Bizarrely, mine can, under strange circumstances.

That's true; I'd forgotten about that feature.
Strange that opening the boot doesn't count as opening a door, though. I'll have to test mine.
By the way, when you're in the car, and you lock the doors on the inside, does the boot get locked?
I can't check, because I'm in the car, and no-one I know is outside the car!:D
I've often wondered if a thief could open the boot and take something while I'm stationary, even though I've locked the doors.(I just lurve spiders!)

I keep seeing articles in the news about antisemitism being on the increase. It's not the sort of thing that would be noticeable to me if I didn't read about it in the news, in my comfortable middle class suburb in the West of England, and I can't think of anything much I can do about it. My MP's a Tory, so I can't even write to him about the problems in the Labour party, but I did just want to post a message of support for our Jewish NP, and say that if there is in fact something that it would be helpful to say in a letter to a Tory MP, I'd be happy to write one if you can suggest what it should say.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Mine does the auto-lock thing, but if you open anything it remembers.
That's a 2010 Peugeot.
Really though I never put the keys down in the car, or leave the keys in the ignition. I've trained myself not to. (as much as possible anyway)
I don't trust central locking. Or for that matter "auto" stuff in general. Apart from the fact that they nearly all seem have some sort of unwanted feature, only got to have a faulty switch somewhere and it messes it all up.
In some ways I preferred the old way of checking the locks around the car.
And winding the windows up with a handle!0 -

Are you OK with electric starting or would you prefer to use a handle to start the engine?:p:p

I must admit, when I first heard about this, last year?, I was utterly astonished. Utterly, utterly astonished.
Why would anyone these days be anti-Semitic?
I just don't get it.
If that makes me naïve, I can only apologise, but please do enlighten me.(I just lurve spiders!)

Nothing wrong with winding handles for starting.
I'd have surface carburettors back that will only use "motor spirit" as well, along with trembler coil ignition, crash gearboxes, and acetylene lights.
All which would mean that most people wouldn't drive!
A big win!0 -
My dad used to have to start his first car with a handle, Austin 8 I think it was. His next car it was optional (A40 Somerset) - but he did use it quite a lot of times when the battery was flat or possibly mid winter when it needed a bit of oomph.0

Sometimes, if I'm loading the car with something where I only want to make one trip to the car I'll try to unlock it, put the keys down on the path, then get to the car ... before it clunks and locks itself again. Sometimes I win, sometimes I don't.
What IS handy though is if I'm not sure if I locked the car or not, I can just press the button ... and it'll do it for me. From the house/garden I just press the button and listen for the clunk.
- if it was locked, that'll unlock it then it'll automatically re-lock.
- if it was unlocked, that'll lock it.0
