Do you think you could cook a steak in a sandwich toaster? I only ask because DH bought one earlier in the week and I think the novelty has already worn off!Spend less now, work less later.0

It's not that easy to make a toasted sarnie in a sandwich toaster - there's a distinct lack of joined up thinking between the bread manufacturers and the toaster manufacturers such that, in my experience, it's not easy to find decent bread which actually fits the toasters.0 -
Steak will cook on/in anything where the plates get hot enough .... and it fits within the framework of the gadget.
A toasted sandwich maker is unlikely to work because, although the plates would get hot enough to (eventually) cook it, the shape/dimensions of it do not provide a consistent level to be able to cook it evenly. It's got deep bits in the middle, graduating up towards the outer edges.
To cook a steak you'd need a gadget that provided a flatter surface, more consistently level ... and, of course, large enough for the size of steak you've got ... and you might still become frustrated by the time it takes to cook if you've a fat'un.
You can't control the heat of a gadget, so if the outside's cooked, but the middle's raw as you got a biggun ... you have no control over that as you can't "turn it down".
Ultimately it all comes down to your acceptance of "not getting it 100% how I'd prefer it" - and being limited in your choice of equipment. It might be that somebody who was prepared to cut their steak in half and quite liked it quite raw anyway might "get away" with it.... but it's a personal thing of how you like it, how far off "the norm" you're prepared to go to cook it ...and if you'll just throw a tantrum when it doesn't turn out exactly how it would if you'd done it in a pan.
When you alter a cooking method, you alter the end result by any number of factors.... which is a balance you have to accept before starting. It's like the difference of liking chips, but only having an oven, so having to oven bake them rather than deep frying .... but if "only deep fried will do or I'll cry"... then oven baking will never make it acceptable for you to do... on the other hand, many other people would say "I'd prefer the oven version as they'd be less greasy" - we're all different... so there's no one set answer on whether anything's good/bad in the main, as our tolerances and preferences are all different.0 -
just slice it thin and you'll be fine, works for the Japanese after allI think....0

DW spotted a tiny blemish on her skin, which she thinks has been there a week. About 3mm across. She needed to see the GP about something else, so showed it to her. The doctor did NOT say that it's nothing, as I expected, but duly measured and logged it, and DW has to return in a fortnight to see if it's grown. I'm hoping it's just an overly zealous GP.
I regard DW as indestructible, so it's alll rather upsetting as a reminder of our mortality. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Top tip: never buy a pop up tent.
I bought one (last year, year before?) at a car boot ... got it out of the bag and up it popped.... could I follow the instructions to get it back in the bag? Could I heck as like! So I did the best I could and strapped it up and tossed it in the shed.
One of today's tasks was to get it out and have another go. I did that - and suddenly the wind whipped up .... and I c0cked up the instructions... but I had no choice really, it HAD to go back in the bag.... so I had another go and I got very lucky - and it's in the bag...and that's where it's staying!!
Gelert Quickpitch SS it's called.
It's easy if you're tall, have long arms, large hands ... and know what you're doing (and it's not windy)

Reminds me a bit of ye olde prepper thread, where the advice was to lick car windows in the morning to quench your thirst.
Thinking back to the "Midlands today" one (Late 70s, early 80s you reckon?)
I think you're right, that was salmon.
I've seen another one about steak cooking though. Again way back. Exactly when or where. . .0 -
It looks nice out there - but it's very breezy!0
