One of my uncles, who I adored as a small child, was in the Navy and once came home from sea with a "full set". I don't remember it at all because I was so young, but apparently I ran from him screaming and he had to shave it all off0

Once, when I was 18, Aged P wondered aloud whether he might shave his off. I was appalled, and told him that he mustn't. He said "But you could see my face. You've never seen my face." I replied "I don't want to see your face!"
He's still got the beard, and I've still never seen him without it.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Science?
How come some days 65° in my house feels "warm and toasty" - and other days, like right now, I think "bit nippy ..... I'd like the heating on".
Is it me? Or because the temperature's falling faster than usual? Or am I imagining it and dreaming?0 -

Modern systems have an outside temperature sensor that helps even things out.0 -

Could also be wind direction.
If the wind is blowing from the direction of the house you are attached to, it will shelter you from it. If it's coming from a more exposed direction, I guess the 'wind chill' factor comes into play.
Also the strength of the wind will have an effect, I suppose.
Another thing is what you are doing. If you are pottering about, the room temperature might feel perfectly comfortable, but if you are sitting at a computer or doing paperwork for any length of time, and so relatively immobile, you can start to feel cold quite quickly.(I just lurve spiders!)

Wind direction certainly makes a difference here, but we're exposed on all sides, so we get anything that's going!
I was surprised though how even a little shelter makes a difference. One evening some time back we came out of the pub in a village a mile or two away. It's high up, and only a mile or so from the sea. It was blowing a gale there. The sign was swinging about like mad. Came home, a mile and a half further inland, and sheltered from the West by a hill. A bit windy, but certainly not a gale.0 -
Now it's still 65° ... and I'm sweating..... just had to open the door to cool down a bit.
Before I'd been moving about and had been in/outside.... now I'm indoors with a thick cardigan on and a small fleece over my feet.0 -
