A question for NP who know about satnavs...

When my car was off the road a little while ago, I had a hire car with a satnav. I found it pretty useless compared with the satnav app on my phone. My phone can use my data allowance to get live traffic information and advise me which of several routes will be fastest considering the traffic of the moment. The car's satnav couldn't do that. Does this mean that when I eventually stop driving FIL's old car and get a replacement for myself, then even if it's got a satnav it won't be worth using, or is there a way to make car satnavs find out about traffic?
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

If/when they change the driving test to include being able to use a satnav... will old duffers like me be banned from the road because "those old folks know where they're going, using magic called maps and memory.... ban them all, they're dangerous". A world full of people that pre-plan and know what they're doing/where they're going... where will things end??

I tell you when it would b useful, though, and that's when you're stuck in a long tailback, not knowing what the hell is going on or how long it's all going to be.

Knowing you've got a two-hour wait is better than having a two-hour wait and not knowing, iyswim.

I think some do - using some form of radio broadcast traffic info, I think. Others might well be tapping into the likes of Google.

Nope - because you passed your test before it was a requirement.
You'll just have to make sure you behave yourself and don't get a ban followed by a mandatory retest :rotfl:

They are also very useful when driving an unfamiliar road in the dark - giving you some idea of what the road will do around the next bend.

Of course, in my car, I could just deploy the ASDIC.
