moving to non virgon media area?

Recently moved property into a non- virgin service area, a few days before moving out of our old property I phoned Virgin to ask them to transfer services (phone/ tv and broadband) to the property, I was told that there were no services available to this area and furthermore since I was only into the 4th month of my re-negotiated contract we would have to pay the remainder of it.
We received a bill of £200 for the remaining balance. I’ve sent several letters to Virgin media customer services but yet to receive a single response. A Few days ago we received a debt collection letter demanding the full amount.
Is there anything that I can do or should I just bite the bullet and pay off the amount?
If I knew it would end up like this it might have been better to not inform them and continue paying the monthly amount
Any advice would be appreciated

no, you don't need to pay this, if virgin media aren't providing service in the area that you've moved to, then that's their fault, not yours0

Absolute rubbish.
OP read the terms and conditions of your contract. You will find that the contract will make you pay regardless of whether you are in a virgin media cable area. As you can receive broadband and a telephone service from Virgin Media when you are not in a Virgin Medai cable area, I suggest you contact them again and ask for this instead so you don't lose the full £200.
I also suggest you write one final letter to Virgin Media using recorded delivery informing them that if they don't contact you within 14 days about your previous letters (give the dates of your previous letters) you will contact OFCOM due to their refusal to communicate with you and there insistance of sending debt collectors round. Then after 14 days contact OFCOM on 020 7981 3040 in office hours and make a formal complaint.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

I know xTelewest never used to hold you to contract if you moved to an area not covered, though some people did give an address to them they knew was cabled area if they were moving to a cabled area and didn't want to take services or simply no longer wanted them.
I take it since NTL took control and use the Virgin name they have decided you still have to pay until end of contract.
Worth contacting Virgin and seeing what they say. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
