Delayed Baggage Compensation

Hello,
I am looking for some advice. I travelled on a cruise in April. Boarding the cruise in Rome.
I flew from Edinburgh to Rome via Amsterdam with KLM.
Long story short my baggage was lost/delayed and I did not recieve my baggage until I arrived back at Rome airport for my return flight home.
Major inconvenience as I only had my hand luggage to do me for my whole trip.
Have been trying to claim compensation from KLM since I got back, and have only received a response this week.
What I have been given in the way of compensation is £85 and 2000 KLM Air Miles. The 2000 Air miles would not even buy me a set of luggage scales from their website. Almost three months awaiting a response for that?
Does this level of compensation seem the norm, or should I push back for more? If so, what angle do I take, and how do I escalate?

You could always claim of your travel insurance.0 -

there is a difference between how delayed and lost baggage is treated
For delayed baggage generally the airline will reimburse essential items purchased whilst the bag was delayed. There is no additional compensation, just the reimbursement. (and if your bag is delayed on the way home there is generally nothing paid/reimbursed)
Your challenge may be if, for example, your travelled on a Tuesday to join a cruise on the Wednesday but the bag arrived on the Wednesday after you had set sail so they may have issues with reimbursing 2 weeks of cruise wear.
I would also suggest travel insurance would be a better place to claim from0 -

Lots of underwear, a couple of pairs of trousers, three or four shirts, cleaning equipment etc.

I've only ever had £85 from KLM for lost baggage, so think that must be their limit.
They never actually "lose" my luggage, they just don't load it when the plane is full, even priority.
They are pretty bad for that, had it a few times this year.travelover0
