I have removed a hard drive from a laptop not working and placed it into another laptop of the the same make model and age and now the screen resolution is all wrong and there is only one option to change it (normally there are loads)

What has happened and how can I fix it?

Try removing and reinstalling the video drivers.

How do I do that - Do delete in device manager and reboot?

Its remove with drivers rather than delete, then you can search for new drivers. Make sure you have internet connection first.

When you uninstall a device it usually gives an option to ask if you also want to delete the device drivers. Select that option.

As you don't sound too technical I would go direct for the driver by the laptop maker, get the model number (sometimes there is a version number as well like V1.1) go to the manufactures website and download and instal the graphics driver. Sometimes just referred to as VGA driver, this should solve it. Sometimes they change a graphics chip during a new production cycle of the same laptop due to availability etc your version will be slightly off which is why it is giving you hassle and why the V1 V2 number if it is there is important.
