So on the phone today I was told I have a fixed term award. They couldn't or wouldn't tell me why and a supervisor is going to call me back tomorrow to discuss what's going on. Has anyone ever heard of this before? I won't be getting a shortened form, I need the full length PIP 2 form. I've asked them to post me the SOR from my last tribunal and have already requested letters from my specialists
I'll be honest i've not heard of this but it sounds like susie was right in the fixed term awards having no reviews. You learn something new everyday they say and in this case it's true. Try to get some help with those dreaded forms. I usually ring CAB for their help. They never let me down last year with my ESA forms. Don't leave it too late to ring them if you're planning on this though because they're often extremely busy.

Good point, I'll try get an appointment for 2 weeks to give the form time to arrive.
  • My award end March 2018 and I've heard nothing either! I thought maybe they're reviewing six months before now but I think I'll ring them then!

No, reviews are done 1 year before, unless of course your award is for a fixed term then it won't be.

hope this thread can provide some clarity

    https://www.rightsnet.org.uk/forums/viewthread/8148/

fixed term awards can be made with either the 14week period to reapply (ie
its up to the claimant to make another claim) or its the year in advance notification (where the DWP will send you forms to review entitlement)...see post 9 in the above link for a better explanation.

The majority of PIP awards are fixed term. They may be short, medium or longer awards. https://benefitsandwork.co.uk/personal-independence-payment-pip/glossary/2012-how-long-will-personal-independence-payment-pip-awards-last

A small minority are not and classed as "ongoing" ie a start date but no end date, the award letters for an ongoing award usually specify a review date in 10 years. My award letter says a fixed term award of four years, with a review one year in advance of the end date.

For review, the forms sent may be the normal full length form p2, or it may be the AR1 short form (three options to answer for each relevant descriptor -got worse, improved, or no change).

GlasweJen, look at your original award letter - in answer to your question why you didn't get a renewal, its most likely that your letter doesn't contain the paragraph about having an end date and a review one year prior to it.

    regards,

    T

The award letter just states a start and end date for PIP, the rates and the backpay that I was owed. Apparently the DWP didn't anticipate that I'd have any ongoing needs after the award period and that's why I'm not on an ongoing award. Someone found a cure for being a para and hasn't released it to the NHS!

I'm not 100% sure but i know with renewals you can ask for a 2 week extension, so might be worth asking about that too. Sorry you're going through this :(

At the time of my tribunal my immune system was rock bottom, I had 2 weeks battery left on my pacemaker and no surgeon in the land was willing to replace it. Maybe they thought a new pacemaker would solve all the problems?
