It would be interesting to compare how many fires involved faulty Hotpoint appliances (and the fire may have been caused by a faulty socket or misuse of the appliance) and those of other manufacturers. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
I don't have the particular model, which was dated between 2006 & 2009. I have though a Hotpoint FFUQ1810X bought 2012 - only problem - some rust spots along the trims and door edges.
Nevertheless, browsed what is available now - not impressed.
For some strange reason (at least it seems strange to me) the emphasis in capacity is on the Fridge rather than on the Freezer. That is I've seen many units that are 60/40 that way, some even 70/30, while others are 50/50, but nothing the other way - 40/60!
You may think a 70cm wide one would be better than a 60cm, but no - the double doors mean only one 4-pint milk in each side, instead of four!
Is an American Freezer that much better, buyers may be too easily swayed by the cold water dispenser - trouble is it cuts down on the room inside the freezer.
I expected to find something that maybe was more expensive than I'd normally consider. But no I was totally underwhelmed - didn't like anything!!I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
my hotpoint washer dryer packed in a while back. luckily i had a spare hand me down washer to replace it temporarily.
its only just five years old too. shouldn't develop a fault in that time.
but its a common fault with the PC board. and hotpoint dont want to know.
after all this i think i'll just throw it.
i dont trust this brand anymore.0 -

I don't think you would.
Firstly do you sit watching your fridge all day just in case it catches fire?
Fridges are left on unsupervised 24/7 so chances are you wouldn't be in close proximity when it happened.
Secondly most fridge are between units in a fitted kitchen, and plugged in at the back. Would you pull a burning fridge out to unplug it?Zebras rock0 -

I seem to recall it being a problem with washer/dryers in general. That they're more prone to problems because of the dual function. Perhaps something to look into if you're wanting another one as a replacement.
Unfortunately white goods nowadays are throwaway. No longer cost effective to repair them when you can buy a new one for not much more! My old fridge freezer/washing machine/cooker lasted around 10/12/33 years respectively - and out of those only the WM actually broke down (ff was my OH's fault, cooker it worked but had no safety gas cut off). I don't think my current ones will last as long though I may be surprised. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Update to my last post - I have found something of interest.
A 70cm Blomberg machine - http://www.euronics.co.uk/refrigeration/fridge-freezers/blomberg-036kgm9691x/2804
Downside - don't need the ice cube maker, takes up space, and turns out a subsidiary of Beko! Still as far as I could tell - a metal back - which judging by other threads here is good.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -

Five years is really good going for a washer dryer.0
