Barclays Online Banking

Options
Barclays are warning of IT maintenance this weekend. From their website:
We'll be carrying out essential maintenance from 11.45pm this Saturday until 3.30pm on Sunday 25 June. We're sorry that during this time you won't be able to do your everyday banking via Telephone Banking, our mobile banking app, Pingit or Online Banking. Your card will work as normal. If you need to transfer money for use during our maintenance period, please do so before it starts. We'll complete our maintenance as quickly as possible. If we finish early, we'll let you know. For updates, visit our Service Status page:https://status.uk.barclays/ or follow us @BarclaysUKHelp.

Mmmm....After the news on Barclays this week, I will be amazed if people don't start to leave them as soon as they can. Awful company (I know as I worked there) and I am not surprised that the SFO has charged Barclays and 4 executives with fraud. Looking forward to when the 4 naughty boys are on trial on 3/7/17.

I mean that's all good and valid Mchambers, but what does that have to do with the original post?

Anyone who has a Barclays account will have received the warning about maintenance anyway.

And, as for Barclays being an 'awful company'..well...maybe they were awful to work for, but we've been with them for 26 years and never had a problem. If you're talking ethics, then you'd better lump a lot more banks in with Barclays.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

Barclays has issued this warning on their app some time ago. They are doing maintenance. For me this is to be expected from all banks. I have accounts with Barclays. One mirrors my Barclaycard to ensure this is paid in FULL, the other is a Blue Rewards account from which two monthly DDs are paid. (They are separate due to money management reasons.) The monthly rewards are part of my Christmas and Birthday presents fund each year (less the fee). The app was working fine this morning. I don't find them awful at all. I actually have found them very helpful.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

All banks need to maintain their IT systems of course and customers have had notice of this in both online banking and on the mobile app.

As to Barclays being an ‘awful' company, possibly they are when it comes to working for them – I wouldn’t know. However, I first opened an account with them when I was a student in the 1970’s. I still have a current account with them – not my ‘main’ one nowadays but I still use it occasionally. I’ve never had any issues with them and am not planning to leave them any time soon.

The authorities obviously think they have a case to answer when it comes to the Qatari loans. However, I suggest they’re no worse than many other banks – HSBC with money laundering and RBS with alleged malfeasance with regard to fraud in its insolvency department come to mind immediately; I’m sure there are other examples. The lack of ethics in the industry seems to me to be a systemic problem and not confined to Barclays.

Thing is, the app is still working to at least display balances, I haven't any bills to pay.

Sums up Barclays. Totally useless and not to be trusted.

We have the entertainment on 3/7/17 watching 4 of their previous execs (including Varley) going on trial for fraud.

Ironic that one of their staff's core behaviours is 'honesty and integrity' lol !!

    True, true. He seems obsessed.
