Main Dealership Scratched my Car, TWICE!

    No No No No. Your car has been made in a factory to the highest standard. It just has a little scratch in it. Do the minimum possible. Don't have a monkey sanding it and then spraying it and trying to match it up. In my experience spraying looks OK after it's been done and then it deteriorates over time and it becomes very obvious that the whole door is sprayed. Looks like you've had major damage. Always keep the maximum factory finish and do a minimal repair.

    What? I'd say quite the opposite. You're telling me you'd prefer a repair where the scratch is just filled in with a touch up pen and that's it because you'd want the minimum possible doing to your paintwork? That's rubbish.

    If it's a scratch or dent on a door panel, you'd want it filled, sanded and the whole panel sprayed as well as blown into each panel either side.

    So then you've got the whole car sprayed in the same paint from the factory and one door sprayed by a monkey trying to match up a colour? Bodyshops don't spray to factory standards.

    I wouldn't. I'd far rather have a proper professional localised repair to just the scratch.

    The rest of Fred's drivel is, of course, utter toot. Any half-decent bodyshop will easily match the factory paint - and who's to say that what you think is "factory paint" actually is? A high proportion of cars will have had some rectification work to transport damage prior to delivery.

    I've never had a bodyshop repair that hasn't deteriorated with time. I love this idea of car builders building perfect cars with obsessive quality control and then crashing them as they take them out of the factory. I'm sure it happens occassionally but not a 'high proportion'.

    A good proportion are damaged during transport. Some estimates reckon up to a third have had bodywork done before delivery.

    What is the source of your data? "Some estimates" is not very specific is it?
