Some people define 'pedant' as an insult, others define it as a quality which may be valuable in many circumstances. I've often heard building control officers (the ones who enforce building regulations) being called 'pedantic' in an insulting way... if more BCO's were indeed pedantic then maybe things in the last couple of weeks would have turned out very differently.
Oh, and if I'm a pedant I should point out it is an 'inquiry' not an 'enquiry'.
