Can BT legally charge an individual for leaving their service after their mininum term has passed?
I really think they are pushing their luck can they legally do this!
BT are going out of their way to push customers away. If this happens when I leave then I will not go back to them!

Ending the service
8. When you end your broadband service outside your minimum period and do not request and use a migration access code to move to another service provider, you will have to pay a cease charge of £6. You will not have to pay this charge in the event you are moving home and we are unable to provide the service at the new address.

Legally they can, most companies that have contracts with customers will have a clause in their Terms & Conditions that state something like this:EXAMPLE wrote:Our Rights to Make Changes.
All products and services we provide are subject to our business policies,
practices, and procedures, which we can change at any time and from time to time in our sole discretion
without notice to you.
WE CAN ALSO CHANGE THE TERMS UPON WHICH WE PROVICE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES AND THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT AT ANY
THE EXPIRATION OF THE INITIAL TERM BY GIVING YOU WRITTEN NOTICE PRIOR TO THE TIME THE CHANGES WOULD GO INTO EFFECT.
TIME AFTER
If (a) you are using our services after the initial term or you are a month to month customer and
(b) you chose to continue to use our products or services after receiving notice of any changes, those changes will apply to you after the date you receive the notice and you become or continue as a month to month customer, and will be reflected in the next billing period
These clauses have been in most communication providers terms & conditions since i can remember, so its perfectly legal (if you've agreed to use the service).
As for the disconnection charge, BT Retail have been passed the disconnection charge from Openreach to disconnect the broadband. Some providers pass on the charge to their customers, some dont. Their discretion at the end of the day. But i'd try not to lose sleep over £6

For years Ive been on Freeserve-Wannadoo-Orange ISP broadband via a BT phone line but now I have taken up Orange's new Home Max package which includes phone calls and which entails transferring our line rental to them.
We have now had a letter from BT charging us £200 for disconnection fees.
Can they do this? Im furious.0 -
Well if you're still under term with BT then that might account for some of the disconnection fees. Call them & find out
