Shared ownership - 99 year lease?

Can anyone advise me on why it seems to be a standard thing that housing associations can only offer a 99 year lease when they usually purchase the properties themselves with the full 999 year lease?

Not sure, but even with private ownership, a 99yr is very common & is the longest lease length I've ever had with the flats I've owned. The exception is ex local authority, their leases seem to be of a duration of 125yrs for some reason.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0
